Welcome to DBSA Nashua

  An Open Letter
Over the last several days no doubt everyone has heard of the tragedy that took place in Tucson, Arizona. As like everyone else our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones of those that have lost their lives, those that were wounded and those that are fighting for their lives.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the alleged assailant as well.

The news media referred to the alleged assailant as being unhinged, crazy, delusional, insane, psychotic and other terms only hours after the tragedy took place.

People with Mental Health Disorder(s) are more likely to do harm to ourselves than we are to do harm to society.

We do not want to be referred to nor labeled with disrespectful and hurtful terms. We want only to be treated equally, punished for what we do wrong, but also respected when we do right.

It is sad that in a country where freedom is cherished and fought for, we refer to our fellow Americans as being less than, because we have a Mental Health Disorder(s).

We as people with Mental Health Disorder(s) are afraid to tell our friends, family, employers and others for the fear of losing our family, friends and/or our jobs only for having a disease, not unlike like having Cancer or any other disease. Most of us have a smile on our face but are crying on the inside from the stigma associated with Mental Health Disorder(s).

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Nashua Chapter has been giving peer support to people with Mental Health Disorder(s) in the greater Nashua area for almost eight years.
